bill clinton and some other gun-control advocates talked about the expiration of the federal assault weapons ban and that is why mass murders are now on the rise. they don't have that anymore. people on the other side, they say that we have more mass murderers now because we do not allow americans to carry enough concealed weapons because if more people had guns and concealed weapons, perhaps they would intervene and stop the mass murder in their tracks. everybody has these theories as to why it's increasing. there is one flaw, however. in all of these experiences, it is not increasing. i do not want to bore you with too many statistics. an overdose of statistics is called mass murder in my field. but i think it's important we put it into some perspective. these are a number of cases over the past 35 years. we average every year about 20 mass shootings and about 100 victims. so it's not an epidemic. it is not on the rise. i do not want to minimize the pain and suffering to the victims, families, communities. it is awful when it happens. but we also have to keep in mind that there is
